Apprenticeship Programs

Developing people is not only part of our Mission Statement, it is part of our culture.  Since 1951, MB HAYNES has been a part of hundreds of journey workers’ education.  Our Apprenticeship Program is one of the oldest active in-house programs in North Carolina.  Our program is accredited by the State of North Carolina Department of Labor, the Federal Department of Labor and ApprenticeshipNC.  Graduates receive Journey Worker Credentials upon completion of the four year program.

The classroom experience offers a unique opportunity to discuss real world scenarios as it applies to course study. Many of our in-class teachers have come through the program themselves and know first-hand how fulfilling it can be.   The best part is, you are “earning while you’re learning.”   All apprentices are employed by MB HAYNES so you are able to work during the day and attend classes at night.  Classes are held one night per week on the MB HAYNES campus.

MB HAYNES promotes the apprenticeship program throughout the community at Career Fairs, Job Fairs and speaking engagements from Elementary to High Schools to Community College classes. Area schools have come to see MB HAYNES as a partner in promoting post-education options in the trades and regularly call asking for members of the Outreach Team to visit and speak.

FAQs

How do I apply to be an Apprentice?

The only requirements to enter the program are to be an employee of MB HAYNES Corporation and be a high school graduate or have earned a GED. Click Here to view our current Assistant (entry level) openings.

What Apprenticeship programs do you offer?

Currently, MB HAYNES offers Apprenticeship programs in the areas of Overhead and Underground Power Distribution, Plumbing, HVAC-Service, HVAC Sheet Metal Fabricator/Installer, Electric Construction and Pipefitting/Pipewelding.

Is there a cost to be in the Apprenticeship program?

The Apprentice is responsible to purchase the required books associated with the respective year of Apprenticeship.  This usually costs about $100 each of the four years.  Incentives, such as grade and attendance goals, are in place to allow for the Apprentice to earn back the cost of the books at the end of each year of classes.  If the Apprentice earns the incentives each year, the end cost would be zero!

How long does it take to complete the Apprenticeship Program?

Each program is a four-year program.  The in-house classes usually begin in September each year and are held one night per week, three hours each class for a total of twenty weeks.  In order to meet the requirements for completion, the Apprentice must also complete 8,000 hours of on-the-job training hours.  As an employee of MB HAYNES, Apprentices earn those hours while employed and working.
